2024–Toyota Tacoma Shock & Lift Options

The 4th-gen Tacoma is a whole new truck underneath. New TNGA-F frame, coil-sprung rear end, and a chassis that demands a lot more from its shocks than the old leaf-spring setup ever did. The old recommendations don't carry over.

This is our straight-talk guide to every real shock and coilover option for the new Tacoma — from a budget setup to a full desert build — and we install and dial in every one of them right here in Mesa, AZ.

Why the 2024+ Tacoma Needs a Fresh Look

The previous Tacoma hid a lot behind its leaf-spring rear — friction masked how the shocks actually behaved. The new multi-link coil rear moves faster and freer, so the shock itself is doing far more of the work. Pair that with a stiffer frame and more weight up top on a lot of these builds, and shock choice matters more than it ever has. Bolting on old-platform parts or a cheap spacer isn't the move here — the valving and geometry need to match the truck.

Below is every option worth considering, grouped by budget tier and how you actually use your truck. Give us a call and we'll match the right setup to your rig and your goals — and quote it installed and aligned.

Bilstein

5100 Series

Entry
The budget level

A proven monotube that gets you a level stance and a bit of clearance without breaking the bank.

Our take: A solid starting point, not a destination. Great for the look and a mild daily — but it's an entry shock, not a performance one.
Full breakdown
  • Design: 46mm monotube, digressive valving
  • Adjustability: Front snap-ring heights (level to mild lift)
  • Reservoir: None
  • Damping: Fixed

Ride & fit: Firm but composed on the street, with a modest front lift for the look and a little clearance.

Our install note: We pair it with a matched rear shock and add UCAs if you push past a mild lift, so your alignment and CV angles stay happy.

Fox

2.0 Performance

Mid
The entry Fox

Smoother than stock with that Fox name, tuned for mild daily driving.

Our take: Fine for a light-duty daily. Gets overmatched the moment you load it up or push it hard in the dirt.
Full breakdown
  • Design: 2.0" monotube IFP coilover
  • Adjustability: Height-adjustable front
  • Reservoir: None
  • Damping: Fixed

Ride & fit: A clear step up from stock for pavement and mild trails; not built for sustained abuse.

Our install note: If you tell us you load or tow, we'll steer you a tier up — this one's best kept to a light daily.

Bilstein

6112 / 6100 Kit

Full breakdown
  • Design: 60mm 6112 front coilover + 46mm 6100 rear
  • Adjustability: Front height adjustable
  • Reservoir: None
  • Damping: Fixed

Ride & fit: A big jump in ride quality over stock that still holds up on Arizona trails — the sweet spot for most daily-plus-weekend trucks.

Our install note: Our go-to value build. Pairs great with UCAs at the taller settings; we set your height and align it before it leaves.

  • Reservoir: None
  • Damping: Fixed

2.5 IFP

Mid
The sensible middle

Bigger 2.5 body means better heat management and a more balanced ride on pavement and dirt.

Our take: The smart step up without going overboard — equal parts daily and trail. A very easy setup to recommend.
Full breakdown
  • Design: 2.5" monotube IFP coilover
  • Adjustability: Height adjustable
  • Reservoir: None (internal float)
  • Damping: Fixed

Ride & fit: The larger body manages heat far better than a 2.0 — balanced and confident on both pavement and real trails.

Our install note: The step-up most folks are happiest with long-term. We'll set it up for your terrain and check UCA clearance at your height.

Old Man Emu

MT64

Overland
The overlander's workhorse

Tuned for rigs that carry weight and cover long dirt miles — the overland crowd's bread and butter.

Our take: If you're building a loaded touring/overland Tacoma, this is right in the pocket.
Full breakdown
  • Design: Nitrocharged monotube, load-tuned
  • Adjustability: Application/spring-rate tuned
  • Reservoir: None
  • Damping: Fixed

Ride & fit: Comes into its own under weight — bumpers, drawers, roof loads and long washboard dirt roads.

Our install note: We match spring rates to how you actually load the truck so it sits and rides right fully kitted, not just empty.

Premium
The do-it-all premium

Remote-reservoir, adjustable, built to take high-speed desert abuse and still behave on the street.

Our take: Where serious builds really start. If you actually hit speed off-road and still daily it, this is the sweet spot.
Full breakdown
  • Design: 2.5" with remote reservoir
  • Adjustability: DSC dual-speed compression adjuster available
  • Reservoir: Remote
  • Damping: Adjustable

Ride & fit: The reservoir keeps it consistent under sustained hits, so it stays composed at desert speed and civil on the commute.

Our install note: We mount and route the reservoirs cleanly and set the adjusters to your terrain — this is where our tuning time really pays off.

3.0 Factory Series IBP

  • Reservoir: Remote
  • Damping: Zone-tuned

3.2 Live Valve

Halo
The tech halo

Electronically adjustable on the fly — daily comfort and race capability from the same shock.

Our take: Incredible, and priced like it. Only worth it if your build is genuinely daily + overland + race and money's no object.
Full breakdown
  • Design: 3.2" electronically-controlled (Live Valve)
  • Adjustability: Automatic, on-the-fly electronic
  • Reservoir: Remote
  • Damping: Electronic, real-time

Ride & fit: Adapts continuously — plush on pavement, firm and controlled the instant you push it. The closest thing to one shock that does everything.

Our install note: The halo build. If you're going here, we make sure the whole truck — UCAs, wheels, tires, armor — is worthy of it.

Tacoma Suspension FAQs

Will my 3rd-gen (2016–2023) parts fit a 2024+?

No. The 4th-gen uses different mounting and a coil rear, and the valving needs to match the new platform. Don't try to carry old parts over — it won't ride right.

What do you recommend for a daily-driven Tacoma?

For most people the Bilstein 6112 or Fox 2.5 IFP hits the sweet spot — real ride quality, mild lift, and it holds up on Arizona trails. Call us and we'll tailor it to how you drive.

Do I need a remote-reservoir shock?

Only if you're regularly running rough terrain at speed. The reservoir manages heat during sustained abuse. For daily-plus-weekend use, you don't need it.

Can I just run a spacer or leveling kit on stock shocks?

We don't do spacer lifts — ever. They throw off your geometry, wear bearings and CV joints, and mismatch the valving. We build suspension the right way, with parts engineered to work together. Buy once, cry once.

Do you install all of these brands?

Yes — we're an authorized installer for ICON, FOX, Bilstein, Old Man Emu, King and more, and every lift install includes a post-install alignment check.

How long does it take? Do I need an appointment?

Most installs are same-day. Call ahead at 480-269-2833 so we can stage your parts and get you on the schedule — appointments get priority.

Let's Build Your Tacoma the Right Way
