The Short Version
The Ranger runs an independent front end and a leaf-sprung solid rear axle. That means the front is lifted through real coilovers or spring-and-shock packages — never a spacer — and the rear through better shocks plus a leaf upgrade. Get past roughly 2 to 2.5 inches up front and you'll want upper control arms to keep the geometry honest.
What's Specific About the Ford Ranger
Ford's modern Ranger — the 2019–2023 truck and the redesigned 2024-and-up generation — uses an independent front suspension with upper and lower control arms and a coil-spring-over-shock front, paired with a solid rear axle on leaf springs. Understanding those two halves is the whole game when you're planning a build.
The Front End
Because the front is independent, you can't just crank the truck up with a puck under the strut and call it a lift — and we wouldn't do that anyway. A proper front lift comes from a coilover or a matched spring-and-shock assembly that adds ride height while preserving droop and up-travel. Once you go past about 2 to 2.5 inches, the factory upper control arms start running out of clearance and the ball-joint angle gets steep, so aftermarket UCAs become the smart move for both durability and alignment range.
The Rear End
The solid rear axle rides on leaf springs, which is great news for towing and payload and for keeping a lift simple and strong. Rear height and load capacity come from an add-a-leaf or a full replacement leaf pack, and ride quality comes from the shock you bolt to it. On the newer generation Ford moved the rear shocks outboard toward the frame rails, which improves control — and it responds very well to a quality shock upgrade.
A Quick Word on the Ranger Raptor
If you're driving the Ranger Raptor, you're in a different conversation. It leaves the factory with position-sensitive Fox Live Valve shocks and a coil-sprung rear, and it's already set up for serious speed. Most Raptors don't need a lift — they need the right tire, smart protection, and occasionally a tune to the shocks. Bilstein 5100 / 6112 & 5160
The honest value play. A great ride upgrade over stock without breaking the bank — and the 6112 up front lets us dial in the height you want.

The 5100 monotube is the workhorse of a first level: firmer, better-controlled damping and a modest front lift with plenty of tire room. Step up to the 6112 front assembly and you get an adjustable coilover-style setup that lets us set the exact ride height, paired with 5160 remote-reservoir rears for better heat control out back. For a daily-driven Ranger that sees dirt roads and the occasional trail, this combo is hard to beat for the money. Past about 2 inches up front we'll talk upper control arms to keep your alignment in spec.
Old Man Emu (OME)
The overlander's default. Nitrocharger for value, BP-51 bypass when you carry weight and want it to ride like it isn't loaded.

The Nitrocharger shocks with a matched leaf pack give you a comfortable, load-supporting lift that shrugs off a bed rack and a rooftop tent. If you spend real time at higher speeds on dirt and want a shock you can dial in, Fox earns its spot.
King
Premium end of the shelf. Built to be run hard, cooled by a remote reservoir, and rebuilt for a lifetime of desert miles.

King is what you buy when the truck sees serious high-speed desert use and you want zero fade. The 2.5 remote-reservoir shocks manage heat exceptionally well and are fully rebuildable and tunable — so as your build and driving evolve, the shocks evolve with you rather than getting tossed. It's an investment, and for a Ranger that lives at the far end of the trail, it's the one that keeps performing lap after lap.
Upper Control Arms
Not a brand — a necessity past a certain point. The piece that makes a bigger front lift ride and align correctly.

Once you lift the front of an independent truck past roughly 2 to 2.5 inches, the factory upper control arms start limiting your alignment range and your ball joints run at a steeper angle than they were designed for. Aftermarket UCAs correct the geometry, restore proper caster and camber adjustment, add clearance for up-travel, and often use a stronger uniball or upgraded joint. On any mid-tier or premium Ranger build we do, UCAs are part of the plan — and the alignment to finish it is included.

Will you spacer-lift my Ranger?
No — and we mean never. A spacer preloads your factory shock, kills up-travel, and worsens the ride. On the Ranger we lift the front with real coilovers or matched spring-and-shock assemblies, so you actually gain performance instead of trading it away.
Do I need upper control arms?
If you're staying at a mild 1.5–2" level, usually not. Once you go past roughly 2 to 2.5 inches up front, aftermarket UCAs are the right call to restore alignment range, protect your joints, and gain clearance. We'll tell you honestly where your build lands.
What tire size can I fit?
Most lifted Rangers comfortably run 32s, and many builds get to 33s with the right height and offset. Fitment depends on your exact lift, wheel backspacing, and generation, so we dial it in per truck. We can sort your wheels and tires in the same visit.
Does a lift ruin the ride?
A cheap one can. A properly matched shock-and-spring package usually rides better than stock — more controlled, less floaty, and far more composed on rough roads. The quality of the parts and the install is everything, which is why we don't cut corners on either.
Is alignment included?
Always. Every suspension install we do finishes with an alignment on our in-house equipment. A lift changes your geometry, and driving away out of spec chews tires and steers poorly — so we never send a truck out that way.
How long does the install take?
